# Adding a new resident

## Adding A Resident

To add a resident, click the ***ADD RESIDENT*** button. You will see the following screen. It has a number of tabs, from BASIC INFO to LIFESTYLE. You should fill in all relevant information, most is optional and the required info is marked with an asterix ( \* ). See the list below for what each section means.

When you have filled all information in, click the ***CREATE RESIDENT*** button. You will now see the residents list again, with your new addition.

#### Assigning a resident to a room

Once you have created a new resident, it is a good idea to assign them to a room. To do this, navigate to the ***OCCUPANCY*** tab in the main navigation bar and select the room they will be assigned to. You will see a list of residents who are not currently assigned to a room.

Select the resident, and then confirm that you wish to add them to the room.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://guide.guardiancaregov.com/documentation/residents-menu/markdown.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
